WHEN YOUR HOME FEELS OFF, 4 GENTLE WAYS TO RESET

I know I know I've been there too. Something just feels off and you feel fed up! You've spent a bit of money and its just not coming together like those Instagram homes. Well fear not, because its not gonna take a whole pile of money to fix it again, its just going to take a bit of fresh thinking. Theres a few simply tricks I live by when my space has lost its mojo and I guarantee that if you try this you'll have yourself back to loving it all over again.

Clear it all back (yes… all of it)

I know—it sounds dramatic.

But if your space isn’t coming together, the best thing you can do is strip it right back so you’re looking at a blank wall and a clear surface.

No distractions. No “maybe that works.” No trying to make things fit that just don’t.

Take everything off your console, your shelves, your table—whatever area is bothering you most. Move it all out of sight for a little while.

And then just pause there.

There’s something surprisingly calming about seeing your space completely cleared. It gives your eyes (and your mind) a break, and more importantly, it gives you a fresh starting point without all the visual noise.

This is the part most people skip… but it’s the part that makes the biggest difference.

Because when everything is still sitting there, you’re not really restyling—you’re just rearranging.

But when it’s empty?
Now you get to rebuild it properly.

Start adding things back slowly. Piece by piece. Only the items that actually feel right.

If you pick something up and hesitate, that’s your answer.

The goal here isn’t to fill the space again—it’s to create something that feels effortless, balanced, and you.

And you’ll be amazed how much better everything looks when it’s been chosen with intention, rather than just left there out of habit.

Gather a little inspiration (the right way)

Next, take a quiet few minutes to scroll Pinterest—but with intention. Try searches like “styling a corner space” or “creating a welcoming hallway” and notice which images instantly catch your eye. The ones you pause on… those are the ones to trust. Create a small board and save just 5–10 images that truly resonate with you. Not hundreds—that only adds to the overwhelm. This is about clarity, not clutter. Think of it as your gentle guide, a starting point that helps you understand the look and feeling you’re naturally drawn to.

Add one statement piece (instead of lots of little ones)

Before you start layering lots of decor back in, think about adding one strong focal point. If your space feels flat, you don’t need to repaint the whole room—sometimes a large art print or canvas can completely transform it. It instantly adds colour, creates a more “finished” look, and gives your eye somewhere to land, which makes the whole space feel more elevated (without much effort at all). The best part is, there are so many places online now where you can find beautiful, reasonably priced pieces. And when you have something impactful like that, you actually need less around it—it does the heavy lifting for you. Just be a little mindful with your colour choice, as this piece will naturally set the tone for the space and become the dominant shade you build everything else around.

Refresh what you have and layer it back with intention

And once you’ve chosen your statement piece, this is where it starts to come together in a really satisfying way.

Before you even think about buying something new, take a look at what you already have. That console sitting in your hallway—could it be refreshed instead of replaced? A soft coat of paint, a light sanding and varnish, or even something as simple as changing out the handles can completely transform a piece. It’s amazing what a small update can do, and often it brings far more character than buying something brand new.

From there, begin adding your pieces back in—but keep it intentional. If we’re thinking about a hallway, for example, and you’ve already added your artwork, you really only need a few more elements to make it feel complete. One reworked piece (like your refreshed console), and then just two or three carefully chosen additions.

A tray is one of the easiest ways to anchor a space. Something like our Brea tray adds beautiful depth and structure—it instantly makes everything feel more considered. Place it on your console with a simple vase of green stems or one of our faux arrangements, and suddenly the whole area feels styled without trying too hard.

Then, at the other end, you might add something with a bit of height and softness—like a large white candle in a simple cylinder holder. It’s subtle, but it brings that quiet sense of warmth and understated luxury that makes a space feel finished.

And just like that… without overthinking it, without overspending, you’ve created a space that feels calm, balanced, and completely your own again! Tracy
